Eastern Pennsylvania Girl Scout Camps to Be Closed

Three camps in Eastern Pennsylvania are to be closed by the Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania. The camps are Tohikanee, Tweedale and Hidden Falls. The decision to close these camps was made after a two-year assessment by the Girl Scouts of the six camps owned by the council. This assessment like many others being conducted throughout the USA, decided that they should sell half their camps.

“Although property may be divested in the future, nothing will happen until at least June of 2012 and any selling decision will be based on market conditions and other factors at that time,” according to a document of frequently asked questions posted to the Girl Scouts’ site. The announcement also references a “detailed disposition strategy,” which would consider a number of solutions, such as conservation easements as well as outright sale..

What a shame that camps are being sold and our selection of badges have been abandonded. What a way to celebrate our 100th anniversary. Keep the camps! Keep the old badges! Get rid of the Girls Guide and the Journeys.
