For release on Feb 4 and Feb 5, 2011
Friends of Camp Singing Hills is pleased to announce the launch of their website.
This website is intended to share their efforts with the general public and garner support as they attempt to retain and maintain Camp Singing Hills in Middlebury, Indiana. The camp is still currently owned by Girl Scouts of Northern Indiana-Michiana, but has been closed since January 1, 2011.
Friends of Camp Singing Hills, a group of mothers and fathers of current and former scouts, current and former Girl Scout Leaders and members, and former Camp Singing Hills staff interested in the preservation and conservation of Camp Singing Hills as a camp and outdoor educational facility for the use of Girl Scouts and the surrounding community, is pursuing incorporation to support their efforts.
Friends of Camp Singing Hills (FOCSH) was formed in September, 2010, in response to the announcement by the GSNIM Board of Directors that the property known as Camp Singing Hills would be closed and sold. Since that time, a petition drive, a fund raising drive and a call for volunteers have begun. Information can be found on the new website.
Camp Singing Hills is a prime location to provide programming that keeps “no girl left inside” and encourage “unplugged” activities that lead to healthier life styles and more fit children. For decades, it has played a huge role in developing young girls into women of integrity and strength. FOCSH exists to retain and maintain this property for Girl Scouts and the community to enjoy.
