Of the 87 voting members of the general assembly in attendance this morning, 52 voted in a straw poll to stop the sale of the camps. This require 50% to pass, and so it did.
The next amendment was to make this a permanent amendment. This required 67% to pass. 48 voted YES and 39 voted no. While this is a majority, the amendment required 2/3 to pass, so it did not pass.
The board members and gsneo staff had 25% of the votes. That means that if all the board members and gsneo staff voted against the amendment, 74% of the delegates voted YES to pass the amendment. However–they were unable to overcome the 25% voting block of the board members and gsneo staff. The membership clearly knows what they want (to stop the sale of the camps) however, the board wants to SELL the camps. There is a definite divide in the council between the membership and the board/staff.
Justine Mroczka, girl board director, gave an impassioned speech about why the amendment should not pass, and praised both Joan Villeral and Dan Bragg for being great people and helping her out a lot. She was the only board member to speak against the amendment.
Please stay tuned for the results of the annual meeting.

Please note that GSNEO staff do not have votes at the meeting or in this matter. All of the votes were cast by volunteers – board members and delegates. GSNEO staff are not voting members.
