All’s Quiet at Camp Pouch

The end of January a new article was posted about the possible sale of Camp Pouch in New York City. This rare urban scout camp is being threatened with sale because of the financial troubled Greater New York Council. The article is about how eerily quiet it has been at Pouch.

Of course in the middle of winter in New York you’d expect things to be quiet at this snow blanketed camp. The writer describes the camp on a recent visit to the property. “Set in the heart of the tremendous piece of property, Lake Ohrbach blended in with the snow-covered bare branches on the tall trees that surround it,” reflects the writer. “Dozens of cabins at the campsite were naturally decorated in white, as were the green wooden signs and the memorial garden found near the lake.“

But the article isn’t really about the quiet, winter slumber of this property, but rather how quiet the Greater New York Council has been about the future of the property. Visit the Staten Island Advance for to read this article.
