Camp Munsee and Camp Windigo are two Girl Scout camps slated to be sold by the Girl Scouts of Central Indiana, according to the article “Girl Scouts to sell Camps Munsee, Windigo“.
It seems every week brings news of a Girl Scout camp or Boy Scout camp being put up for sale. In addition to Camp Munsee, other camps to be sold are Camp Treaty Line, Camp Hawthorne Trails and Camp Windigo, according to the article. Learn more.
Personally, it sickens me to hear about camps being sold. Maximizing marketing, PR (public relations), outreach and fundraising (at SaveCamps.org we promote the excellent and FREE fundraising training from Network for Good) are cost-effective solutions to increase camp attendance and revenue, making the need to sell camps unnecessary.
What is your answer to stop the sale of camps and preserve camps for future generations of kids?

Red-tail Conservancy, a land trust for east central Indiana, is engaged in a campaign to purchase Camp Munsee. Once we acquire title, we will need help to set up nature related activities in the structures located at the camps.
We have made it clear that running a camp is beyond the current capacity of our Staff (one full-time) and finances. We have already started networking with local groups to be involved with planning and managing the nature education/recreation programs.
I am thrilled about the possibility of your organization guiding us through the process of maintaining this community amenity for the benefit of all age groups and organization.
But first things first. The fund-raising campaign is in full swing. I’ll keep you posted.
